Hi all, another weekend update from me on what I’ve been up to this week — read on for game stuff, some cute frogs, my first process video, and… cubes?
The game
Not too much to share on the game this week except to say we’re still working away behind the scenes — we’ve been exploring treehouses, picking flowers, furniture, and an inventory system. Last week I mentioned the game will probably sit somewhere in the cosy sim genre, so maybe you can already start imagining what that all might look like in my visual world — once we get some nicer visuals in the build, I’ll start sharing actual images and videos!
New artwork — The night the stars fell
I made the above this week and it was so nice seeing it getting some love on Twitter & Bluesky (where I welcomed a bunch of new followers as a result, hello if that’s you!). This was inspired by a recent visit to a frogpond with my twin daughters where they saw frogs in real life for the first time (after extensive imaginary encounters in picturebooks etc). You can buy a print of it here!
I challenged myself to do some new stuff in this image — the frog character designs, the plant shapes inspired by the IRL pond (rather than just whacking trees in the background), some slightly different treatments of clouds and stars. I recorded the whole process, leading onto my next section…
My first process video
For the first time, I’ve recorded the whole process of making an image from start to finish (the frogs one from above!). I’ve published it on Gumroad together with the Blender file, my sketchbook page of initial ideas, a references/inspiration sheet and also the hi-res final artwork. I’ve already had some lovely conversations with people who’ve found it insightful and helpful — get the process video on Gumroad here
Everything is default cube
For fun I also shared a super quick Blender process video on social media showing how I use ‘box modelling’ where pretty much everything you see in my images starts life as Blender’s infamous ‘Default Cube’. It’s another little peek into how I make my art — take a look below or check out the post here.
That’s all for now — cheers and wishing you a great weekend.
I have not stopped thinking about your art!! I showed my mom in the car and she loved it too!! Keep up the hard work I am looking forward to the future!!!! :)
This painting looks like the prequel to the children’s book Tuesday!
